Tis the Season to Promote Good Oral Hygiene!!

With the holidays right around the corner, Dr. Ashley L. Reynolds of Crescent Orthodontics in South Lyon, MI, reminds you to keep in mind your and your family’s dental health. Oral hygiene aids make great stocking stuffers! Creative ideas can make maintaining good oral health fun with things like cupcake flavored dental floss, or with different types of customized dental kits:

Dental floss: Flossing has a number of benefits like preventing calculus (tartar) build up around the gum line, and also plays an important role in preventing heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems. Adding flossing to your daily brushing schedule decreases the impact of gum disease and increases your overall  health. Make flossing fun with the variety of different flavors of floss available.

Dental hygiene kits: You can include Colgate Wisps, floss, travel size toothpaste and toothbrush, mouthwash, breath mints and/or sugar-free gum. Dr. Reynolds notes that for those with braces, you want to also include wax and floss threaders or orthodontic floss.

Tooth fairy kits: Keep up with your child’s tooth loss as they grow! Record your child’s name, age, tooth lost, the method that it was extracted and how much compensation the tooth fairy left the child. They will love looking back in year’s to come with their own children!

Toothpaste: There are several different types of toothpaste, i.e., anti-decay, anti-plaque and toothpaste designed to help with sensitive teeth. Toothpaste comes in a wide array of flavors as well- any paste is adequate as long as it contains Fluoride.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Reynolds at 248.437.3377, or visit Crescent Orthodontics when you are in the South Lyon, MI area. Happy Holidays!!!!
